The District of Kilkis is known for its cultural festivals despite
the lack of organization, the participation of young people and
generally the intense financial problems the people face although
the local authorities make a conscientious and brave try to overcome
the above mentioned problems.
Trying to categorize the existing cultural elements in Kilkis we
can arrange them in the following categories:
- Historical facts that took place in Kilkis and can become a pilgrimage
or reasons for having festivals
- Some significant archeological sites and monuments that can be
found in the broader region of Kilkis
- Old Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches
- Existing or revitalized customs
- Traditional weddings
- Traditional events and local festivals
- Folkloric material that can be used in many different ways
- Fetes that take place almost every month in almost every town
or village
- Cultural festivals or occasionally theatrical performances, creation
of cultural clubs which often try to organize important events and
festivals
